About the club
The Calshot Angling Club was established in 1982 and is based at the Calshot Activities Centre on Calshot Spit. This is a shallow venue situated at the mouth of Southampton Water and is a sheltered southeast-facing shingle beach. The location makes a good backup venue during a south-westerly wind. Night sessions are recommended.
The last three hours of the flood tide and the first couple of hours of the ebb tide are likely to produce the best catch. There are generally plenty of small black bream during the day but as darkness falls expect silver eels, bass, pouting and some small smooth-hounds. Other species such as Dover soles, plaice, flounders and dogfish will appear.
The club runs competitions throughout the year as follows:
1. Friday night measure and return, fishing one rod with up to 3 hooks.
2. Winter Sunday competitions, fishing up to two rods but only three hooks in total.
3. The December competition includes a Raffle.
